[ It's a few days after he breaks his ankle that Kaveh finally tries to do something that isn't just sitting in his suite and ordering his toolbox and AI assistant around. In spite of its size and relative flexibility, it's still his; he knows its walls too well and feels like he's going to develop cabin fever if he's forced to stay inside any longer.
(Ironically, it could be pointed out that Kaveh has easily spent more than a few days in his suite at a time, before now. It would seem that the parable about the grass being greener on the other side could not be truer for him in this moment, then.)
Despite all the assistance he's immediately offered by basically everyone, there are a great many places in the resort that simply aren't that wheelchair friendly, and Kaveh has no interest in attempting crutches. He declines offers of assistance, but even so, his actually gold wheelchair stands out like a sore thumb as Mehrak guides him through the library doors, left foot elevated and cast in plaster.
He's halfway to a preferred corner when he sees a familiar shock of red hair, and a small smile finds his lips as he raises a hand, voice friendly—but hushed on account of where they are. ]
[ Cale doesn't seem like the sort of person that spends a great deal of time in the library. He had enjoyed reading in his previous life and still does even now. Fantasy novels are his genre of choice, to the point where he has all of the tropes memorized. There are a few novels in this library that he has started to read -
But Cale is also on the look out for the novel series. The one that he had been reading before waking up as Cale Henituse. Cale's found some of them, but he's still searching for beyond volume 5. It would be nice to know what the future is going to bring and how the war would turn out - even if it's different now.
He has a finger on a book, considering choosing this one for the day when he hears Kaveh's voice. Turning, Cale's brows raise a little seeing the. Ahem. Cast. ]
[ Admittedly, he is a little surprised to see Cale in the library. They haven't talked that much but somehow the other didn't immediately strike him as as the reading type. Even now, he's not sure if he's wrong or if the other is just here looking for something specific.
He doesn't say any of that right now, though. Realistically, it's not his business.
Still, he wishes he had when Cale instead looks straight at his cast and asks what he did. His cheeks warm, and he glances down at the cast before he looks up at the other again, embarrassment written clear on his face. ]
I, uh. I went back into the dungeon again. Fell on my ankle pretty badly. It's broken in two places.
[ Cale plucks the book from the shelf and fully turns towards Kaveh, arms crossed. He looks less than impressed with how the other man ( STILL YOUNGER THAN HIM ) looks. Embarrassment is clear, yes. However, Cale is starting to wonder if that embarrassment is because of the accident or if it's because he's just prone to attracting trouble.
He narrows his eyes further and uncrosses his arms. The one with the book rests against Cale's hip as he bends over, free hand resting on the back of Kaveh's chair. ]
You know the floor with the boulder trap? I landed badly from that, and then when the door from the next room opened, too. I could stand after the first one, but I guess it couldn't handle two bad landings.
[ He sighs again... and then, as if he can guess what the other is thinking (or perhaps is just overdefensive), he blurts out: ] I've explored plenty of ruins, you know. This is the first time I've ever been hurt this badly!
[ There's a sigh and Cale rubs at his temples. So defensive! Honestly, though? Cale understands. He gets that way too, when people worry excessively. ]
I was just asking what happened. There wasn't going to be a lecture.
[ It's no judgement against you, Cale. Kaveh just... yeah. He's defensive at the best of times, honestly. Still, he runs his fingers through his hair when the other tells him there wasn't going to be a lecture, a hint of a sheepish look on his face. ]
..Sorry. I just... I guess the whole thing's a little embarrassing. That's all. Being so noticeably injured, everyone's commenting on it, so..
[ Kaveh can't help but chuckle at that, his head tilting in amused curiosity. ]
A story, huh? What would you suggest then, Cale?
[ He's not wrong, after all. Most people he's seen around here with injuries, they've either been brought over from their home, or obtained through more adult activities... ]
Some of the best tales spun are those that start with a kernel of truth.
[ Encouraging Kaveh to lie? Well, of course he is. Good, believable lies are like this. Either something so outlandish that it could only POSSIBLY be true ( and that might depend from person to person ) or fibs that start out as truths as a foundation. ]
I think it could. Just elaborate with different details.

[ Most "injuries" probably can't even be called that. Not when they are obtained through regular resort activities. ]
Maybe you should make up a story to spin instead.

Something wild. It should be easy since the dungeon at all. You can say that you were saving someone instead.

You know... if I did say that, it wouldn't entirely be a lie. I mean, we saved each other, so... that counts, right?
[ Another laugh, even as he shakes his head. That whole experience was such a mess... ]
