[ Fortunately or unfortunately, Cale is actually a really good liar. People here might see through him a bit, but maybe that's because he hasn't been trying as hard. Or maybe it's because like knows like in the end.

To answer Kaveh's question, there's a bit of a shrug. ]

Having the reputation that I do back home has been very beneficial. If I just play it up a little, then people don't expect much. Partial truths mixed in with lies make it all the more believable.

[ Kaveh hums. He supposes it makes a lot of sense, that someone could use that sort of method to build a reputation, to get themselves out of trouble. He's not sure how successfully it would work for him, though.

Part of him wants to ask more questions. Instead, he offers the other a smile. ]

Does this mean I have to be on my guard with you?

[ If Cale is looking close enough, though, he'll see a slight, amused smile tugging at the corners of Kaveh's lips. ]

I wouldn't think so, unless you're up to something yourself.

[ Or, you know, are getting a little emotionally invested. Cale might guard himself against that sort of thing, even if he's softening up more and more as time goes on. He doesn't realize that he is, though. Rather, he believes that to be a newer development rather than one that started almost two years ago.

He does, however, realize that Kaveh is teasing. So Cale's response is teasing in kind. ]

So what do you enjoy reading?

[ They are both looking at books, as it were. ]

[ He laughs in response to the statement, and then refocuses on the question, offering a brief nod.

What does he like to read—

Truthfully, he could spend quite a lot of time answering that. ]

Usually I enjoy books about architecture and engineering, or the arts. Theory, public interest, most of the time it's that sort of thing. Though I do enjoy a good fiction piece every now and then too.

[ He smiles. ]

How about you?

[ Oh no. Kaveh is one of THOSE types. The kind that read works related to, augh work. Cale questions if that's leisure or research. It might be both, but there are still moments where you need to separate those things out.

They couldn't be more different in their tastes. ]

Fiction. Primarily fantasy. I tend to enjoy the escapism and tales of heroism.

[ Which, of course, Cale might not really look like the type that would be into that, much less reading in general. That's fine. Cale's sure the original didn't do these things as much. ]

I try to avoid technical reading as much as possible.

[ The statement makes Kaveh brighten. He doesn't realize that Cale is thinking about how he reads works related to work, but the other has just expressed an enjoyment of fiction, which, where he's from, is an admission that comes few and far between.

Especially escapist fiction.

He doesn't judge the other based on his appearances though, and so he tilts his head with a curious smile. ]

Tell me about your favorite story, then?

[ He leans against a stable portion of the shelf. Kaveh absolutely lights up at the mention of fiction. Do people really not enjoy reading just for pleasure's sake? Like things completely unrelated to what they do for a living?

He chuckles.

And then goes on to tell Kaveh about some high fantasy novel he's read in the past. Heroic feats. Deep dungeon delving and treasures recovered. Saving the world. Typical stuff like that. ]

[ It's all quite romantic. Kaveh finds himself leaning forward, chin resting in his hands as he listens, the smile on his face almost dreamy.

And when Cale is done regaling him, he smiles. ]

It sounds amazing. I'd love to read it.

[ His head tilts, curiosity on his expression. ]

I wonder if we could find it here.

I think it's entirely possible that you could.

[ Because he's found a few books that he's already read here. In fact, Cale has found the books that he had been reading before he had been transported into that world. Now, he isn't quite sure that he's ready to have THAT conversation with Kaveh just yet but... ]

I've found a few familiar novels while searching the shelves.

[ Kaveh nods in response to that. ]

Mm. I've found some books from back home too. Or some that featured buildings I know are originally from my home.

[ Something he knows because they're buildings he designed. ]

It's... quite a unique place, huh.

[ He offers Cale a smile. ]

If you find anything you enjoy, let me know?

[ He wonders if books end up here just like they do. Do they disappear if someone ends up a pretty statue? Or were they here even before someone arrived? Cale has quite a few questions regarding all of this. ]

"Unique" is one word for it.

[ Not the word that Cale would use. But it's definitely a word. ]

Are you sure you'd be up for something non fiction, Kaveh?

[ His brows raise, but the smile stays on his lips. Right now, he's not thinking too deeply about it, unlike Cale.

He has, however, wondered before. ]

I'm up for anything. Really. I'll take any recommendations you have.

Well then... Anything I find interesting enough to finish, I'll send it your way when I am done.

[ Hopefully Kaveh likes fantasy novels. The sort that have adventure and puzzles. Magic and good characterization and plot.

For now, they can continue to pass the time until one or both parties need to see themselves out. ]
